What pictures can tell you
My dad doesn’t like being pictured, be it with digital cameras, paintings or any type of recording device which involves him being pictured and made immortal in papers, canvas or a video, he just doesn’t enjoy it. His argument was that, pictures will only bring sadness. Sadness to those who lives after him when he died. He said it to my mom on our way to my graduation and we were arguing on which photography service that we’re going to use.
I never thought it that way but I guess my father, who has live years before me, has different view and wisdom. Then I started to browse my photo collection on my laptop.
This is a picture of me on my trip to Melbourne and Sydney. I looked so happy, didn’t I? This is the live I never had. Sure I can make it into a sad memory, but I choose not to. I choose to store it on my “Happy” category on my brain and let it stays there forever.
Another picture reminds me when I started my master study. We were gathered in Rumah Perubahan to join an orientation and introduction to other students. That was happiness too as we were involved in several fun games that involves team work. Although I kinda regret I didn’t establish a close relationship to all of the students and only a few of them.
And this is a picture of my friends and I when we watched Java Jazz festival two years ago, a reminder of whom I’m coming with to the next Java Jazz festival next year.
And the recent photograph is the one on my Yudisium (graduation) last Sunday. It tells a lot. It tells a friendship that has last for more than two years, it reminds me of the rocky road we went through together as students. It reminds me of the competition, the hard work, the team work that we went through together as this is the first few students I know during my first year of study. This is class F081 of year 2008.
See, the stories behind pictures and how we react to it is basically depends on us; whether we want to evoke the sweetness of it or the sadness of it. And these pictures could also be media for us to learn, to ask for forgiveness to those we forget and to forgive those who perhaps has torn us apart. Pictures are reminder of how our relationship with others used to be and how our lives used to be. We can always learn from this and use it as a base to make ourselves a better person.
I hope my pictures would bring good memories to my friends, even after we lost contact and it would bring them to this page and remember me
